Testing the Seething Opal of Equipment in Diablo 4: A 100 Run Exploration

Dec-16-2024 PST Category: Diablo4
Hey everyone! I’m taking a break from my usual grind in Diablo 4 and decided to do something a bit different. After spending countless hours trying to get all my items into the Resilient tier, I figured it would be a great time to test the Seething Opal of Equipment. This unique Diablo IV Items claims to increase the droprate of equipment from enemies, and I want to see if it actually influences boss drops as well.

In this article, I’ll be documenting my journey of running Duriel 100 times with the Seething Opal active, so let’s dive in!

Setting Up the Test

Before we get started, let’s go over the plan:

· Objective: Run Duriel 100 times with the Seething Opal equipped to assess any changes in loot, specifically focusing on gear with GA (Gold Affix).

· Loot Tracking: I’ll keep a tally of all the gear drops and specifically mark any GA items. We will ignore single GA items unless they have perfect rolls.

· Recording Process: Instead of recording all 100 runs in real-time, I’ll highlight notable moments during the runs. I’ll stop recording whenever something interesting drops and edit those clips together for your enjoyment.

The Runs Begin

1. First Few Runs:

· During the first few runs, I started to notice some intriguing drops. On run two, an unexpected 4 GA Amulet dropped! This was exciting as it set a good precedent for the test.

2. Quarterly Updates:

· As we reach our 25th run mark, the tally showed two GA items, one of which was that amazing 4 GA Amulet. Additionally, I collected 16 single GA items. While my luck started high, it seemed to taper off a bit.

3. Midway Mark:

· At the halfway point (50 runs), my tally stood at zero triples but included a variety of single GA drops. Despite the average drop rates, the 4 GA Amulet from earlier was making this run worthwhile financially, valued between 80-90 billion Diablo IV gold.

4. Towards the End:

· By run 75, it felt like the loot had plateaued. Still no triple GA items had dropped, though the anticipation built as I pushed for the final 25 runs. Despite some uneventful stretches, I reported back that I had achieved some decent items overall.

Final Runs & Tallying Loot

After completing the final 100th run, it was time to tally up the results. The total drops included:

· 60 single GA items

· 12 two GA items

· 1 four GA item (the highlight of my runs)

· 2 Ubers

Unfortunately, across all 100 runs, I hadn’t seen a single triple GA item drop at all.

Conclusion: Was It Worth It?

Based on my experiences during this test, it seems that the Seething Opal of Equipment did not significantly enhance the drop rates beyond what you would typically expect. I found that the additional normal items dropped could occasionally be useful, but most of what I obtained were quite lackluster.

Even though I expected one more Mythic to drop due to the item’s abilities, the reality fell short of that hope. The mythic drop rate remained around 2%, and ultimately, as a solo player, I noticed that running with a group might yield better results overall.

Final Thoughts

Overall, while I was hoping for a different outcome, this experiment did shine a light on the dynamics of loot in Diablo 4. It's clear that the Seething Opal can slightly enhance gear drops, but it may not guarantee the high-value items we desperately seek.

If you're considering using the Seething Opal, weigh the potential gains against your play style—whether you prefer solo runs or would benefit more from group dynamics.

Thanks for following along with this loot expedition!
