Should 2K Get Rid Of Badges?

Mar-26-2022 PST Category: NBA 2K

NBA 2K22 feels like a badge battle. Even so, it makes player builds less relevant. Never mind, Glass Cleaner said, he has rebounded, buddy has 24 shooting badges, and plays like Steph. Complete disregard for positions and what they bring or should bring to the team. Why is there a glass that looks like it's stretched and vice versa? Because the badge says you can. It just treats everyone as a catfish and assumes they are all shooters.

I know they won't, but in your opinion, they should make your players depend only on their attributes. Badges are usually the same as attributes. The same goes for percentages. So technically there shouldn't be any difference between them. They rarely do that before badges. Badges are just an extra addition. Not that they should leave entirely, because they're already here too.

This is the best way to differentiate players' play styles. The best way to really do this is to have the right inclination. If they did make those more accurate, it wouldn't be necessary. unless user and user are referenced. Badges should have nothing to do with it.

A player's efficiency at the above skills is a direct factor that affects the percentages... the way you view stats and badges is not how they all work. For example, you can have 99 defense, but it's a valid skill tied to that badge. In some cases, they are switched.

Badges definitely affect the entire player. You can add badges to any low-rated player and their rating will fluctuate. It's not just an additive.

But you don't provide a way to determine how efficient a player is at a more specific skill. How do you determine who is really good at the euro step and who just tried a bunch? I don't play franchises anymore, just my career, so I take your word for it, it affects the entire base roster. I don't see any options for you other than giving the player attributes for each skill. Trends measure unfinished attempts.

Also, badge levels don't seem to work linearly as far as I can tell. People talk about how you only need to get silver for certain badges because higher tiers don't have enough clout. HOF should be the best level to have a badge, period. It makes you have to really decide whether you want to be good at something or at many things.

I like that there are 16 ways to earn badges based on how you play, and each badge can be unlocked with minimum requirements. I also like the 17 styles where the badge locks onto your prototype. I also like your 19 pre-order badge options. None of these games made me feel like I had to rely on my badge. I haven't played 18, 20, or 21 so can't compare.

Not a complete removal, but definitely a serious nerf. Attributes should be the deciding factor when determining what you are good at. I like the idea of badges because there are situational differences in abilities, but they shouldn't be the main focus. Some players are better in the corners, some are better at contact, some are better at avoiding contact, some are relentless rebounders, so there should be a way for them to do those things. I think this game relies too much on badges. Badges should be a small nudge, not a big deal. They should tell the player what situations the player takes advantage of, not what they are good at. A bad shooter can still have corner specialists, even if they're still a bad corner shooter, it just means they're not as bad as the overall 20% in the corners, but only 26% in the corners.

So I don't think they need to remove them, just redo the whole badge system. In order to play this game, badges are required for even the slightest match. Badges go from small boosts that help you play according to your playstyle to almost reliant on playing the game. They also have a lot of badges, some of which are either outdated or simply not worth taking, like defensive leaders or pros.
