Path of Exile 3.25: How to earn gold in Settlers of Kalguur guide

Best ways to get gold and why workers get paid when there is no work.

In Settlers of Kalguur, a new challenge league for Path of Exile, the developers added a new type of POE currency. It's regular gold coins, which weren't represented in the game's economy like that at the moment of this change. So, how to earn it, and what it is used for? Let's see.

How to earn gold in PoE Settlers of Kalguur

Earning gold is very simple. It drops from monsters and objects as you kill them, so to get the gold, simply play more. The further you go in the campaign and later in map tiers, the more gold you will be getting from killing monsters. Map bosses and rare monsters drop more gold, so targeting the mechanics that spawn a lot of rares and uniques might be a good idea to increase your gold income.

Gold currently serves two functions. First, you develop your town, hire new workers, and pay salaries to the existing ones in your settlement of Kingsmarch. It's a crucial part of the mechanic, forcing you to play the maps to interact and profit from your workers.

Second, you have to use it as a tax for the cheap POE currency market. In 3.25, GGG added ways for players to trade some of the PoE items without having to visit the trade site, message people, and go to their hideouts. Instead, there is an automated order system, which lets you quickly trade your currency for whatever you want. To do so, you need to pay gold. The amount depends on the amount of currency you are trying to trade.

What happens when you run out of gold in Kingsmarch

Since the salaries can get quite high, and workers continue to work as you are offline, it's not uncommon to run out of gold in your Settlers of Kalguur experience. But you shouldn't be afraid of that too much, as the only thing that happens is that all operations get halted, and nothing gets fully canceled. When you will refill the coffers, all work will continue from that point.

Do workers get paid in gold when they are idle?

Workers will only be receiving salaries if they are set up for a job. But keep in mind, that it doesn't matter if there is stuff to do - they will be taking their gold regardless. So manage your town carefully, especially before leaving it for the night. High-level idle workers can drain your treasury quite quickly for no gain, and it would suck to waste that gold. To prevent that, move him from the job when there is nothing to do in this position, and you will reduce your expenses.
