How to Enhance Retribution Paladin Performance
Recently joined guild raiding sessions and noticed I'm consistently at the bottom of the DPS chart among the 17 damage dealers, particularly ranking lowest among the Ret Paladins. My hit cap is achieved, and glyphs are up to date. Currently working on improving my expertise, which is still quite low. Even though I've invested a lot of Classic Wotlk gold, the gear improvement is still minimal.
Seeking advice on how to enhance my performance and any overlooked aspects. During the leveling process, I primarily played as Prot, so I'm still acquainting myself with the details of Ret abilities. Any guidance on how to progress would be greatly appreciated.
Firstly, consider conducting a simulation of your DPS using the term "Wotlk ret sim." Save your gear and talents for accurate simulations whenever you acquire potential upgrades. Gear can sometimes be deceptive, and simulating helps ensure you're making informed decisions about upgrades. While hitting the cap is crucial, don't overly stress about expertise. If it naturally appears on gear, that's great, but don't prioritize expertise gems over strength (20 str is more beneficial even if you're under the expertise cap). Experiment with different gem setups and simulate the results.
Regarding your rotation:
- Macro Hand of Reckoning into all applicable abilities (cs, ds, how, etc.) to use it automatically on cooldown without a global cooldown.
- In encounters with multiple targets, don't hesitate to swap seals mid-fight for cleave damage.
- Prioritize abilities in the following order: Crusader Strike > Judgement > Divine Storm > Consecration > Exorcism > Holy Wrath (for undead/demon targets). Hammer of Wrath is a priority when the enemy is below 20% HP.
- Adjust your priority if you have the 2-piece T10 set bonus. Always use Divine Storm when it's available or procs to maximize its usage. Consider saving a mana potion for your non-prepot, as Divine Storm spam can be mana-intensive in longer encounters.
- Consistently spam the buttons in the correct order to optimize your rotation.
By implementing these adjustments, you should see an improvement in your Retribution Paladin performance during raids.
